Although the liquid did no work on an aluminum frame I had, the vendor was more than gracious in granting a refund. This product is used by many gunsmiths for dakening aluminum.

    Works great with sufficient preparation

I used this product to blacken the back of a lens barrel .Following the instructions is very important. Insufficient cleaning is usually the cause of poor results. The original, black-anodized lens assembly had been scratched by an incorrect back lens cap, exposing the white metal. It looked bad, aesthetically, and was a potential source of light flares. I first cleaned the damaged are with a strong detergent (Formula 409 on a cotton bud), then swabbed with water, then cleaned with isopropyl alcohol; the alcohol removed the black Sharpie used to hide some of the damage (a common trick among camera repairers). I then abraded the area with a grey Scotchbrite pad, then cleaned again with alcohol (as per the instructions). I swabbed a tiny amount of the Aluminum Black with a cotton bud ...

  • Works to make metal gray/black

First time user of product but had a piece of aluminum that was raw and didn’t like the stark contrast of it so I used Aluminum Black. It works! Comes as a clear liquid, threw me off at first, I was expecting more of a paint. Through a chemical reaction this turns the aluminum black, after a few seconds and the longer you let it sit the more it darkens. I used a CA Glue as a sealer over it as it felt like it would/could be rubbed off somewhat easily.

  • Good stuff but bad directions.

Works like it should to blacken raw aluminum. Don't follow the directions--they don't work. Clean the aluminum with degreaser or acetone and then liberally dab on the fluid with a cotton tip. Keep the aluminum wet until you reach the level of tint you want. Lightly dab the aluminum dry and then wash with cold water.

  • Helps touch up blackened aluminum

Works good on touching up some scratched aluminum rifle receivers and some aluminum grip frames. Easy to use and durable. I always coat the treated part with Renaissance wax to protect the finish and make it last longer.
