This unit is polymer, not metal. There are a couple of metal units out there, but they cost twice as much, and weren't available. Which might be a good thing. Because I had to trim this unit just a little to get it to seat. I didn't want to trim any part of the rifle, like the stock, so I just trimmed this unit a little. Just used a sanding block. Maybe the metal ones are the same way, (have to be fitted a little) since so many different variation and stocks are on these Rem700's. Once mounted, this thing works great. No failure to feeds. I bought three 10 round magazines, and all work OK. And it seems built rugged enough. Should hold up, but I don't bash my guns around , either. The reason I wanted a detachable magazine is it is difficult and clumsy to fill the factory ... This unit is polymer, not metal. rem 700 sps tactical .223
this is more of a warning for owners of a remington 700 sps tactical in .223. DONT BUY THIS!!!!! every other caliber and variant it works , but not ours. holes were easily a .32 0ff of an inch off for the mounting holes. in the firearms world that like a mile.
