THis blackening solution is based on selenic acid and works well on specific aluminum alloys. it will work well mostly on 7000 series alloys like those used for AR recievers as well as low silicon containing alloys. it will not work well on 6000 series alloys or some cast aluminum alloys with high silicon content. some shotgun recievers are 6061 and the solution will not work on these components. I have used it successfully to repair scratches on AR receivers as well as to touch up areas on my Bow riser and cams. so, be sure that you know what the material that you are trying to blacken is otherwise you will be disappointed.

I use this for mostly gunsmithing, experimental flash hiders and muzzle brakes. I make them from aluminum round stock and love tinkering with different designs. Works well on larger surfaces, when warmed it works very rapidly.

Multiple coats work best, it is necessary to follow instructions when using on raw billet aluminum, take your time and I am sure it will work well for you.
